NATIONAL INFORMATION OFFICER:

The responsibilities of the National Information Officer include the following:

  • Assists in the day-to-day running of UNIC and participates in the policy definition and decision-making on information projects;
  • Maintains close contacts with the media, coordinates distribution of print and audio-visual materials;
  • Maintains liaison with NGOs and educational institutions to encourage teaching about the United Nations, and assists in preparing events and observances;
  • Assists visiting senior United Nation officials, organizes and covers press conferences as necessary, arranges interviews on local radio and TV programmes, and issues press releases and background material for distribution to interested media;
  • Translates, adapts and/or rewrites United Nations information materials and arranges for their publication and distribution in Zimbabwe;
  • Coordinates activities with educational institutions and supervises the work of students on the United Nations;
  • Produces the UNIC Newsletter.
